Assessments - FAQs

Have questions? Look here or get in touch.

Assessments are completed at our Secret Harbour office, or in our High Wycombe space at Meerilinga Children and Community Services.

Broome assessments are conducted via telehealth or at the Chamber of Commerce in a private meeting room.

Short answer, no as we provide private services. However, if you’re seeking a rebate from Medicare or your private health cover, it is best you investigate any requirements prior to self-referring as often these institutions require a specialist referral in order to access any rebates.

We do recommend referrals are only made after consultation with your doctor or another health professional to assist in identifying traits suggestive of a diagnosis. This enables them to complete pre-screening to rule out other potential concerns and ensures that this service is appropriate to your needs.

All payments are to be made by direct deposit. A 30% deposit is required to secure your appointment booking. If the deposit is not received within 7 days of the booking being made and we haven't heard from you, the appointment may be given to someone else. We ask that the remainder of the fee is paid within 2 weeks of your final assessment appointment and prior to release of the Diagnostic Report.

We aim to have the report finalised and released to clients within 8 weeks. Delays in responses from third party participants (e.g. teachers, other caregivers) may impact this timeframe. The full fee is required to have been paid prior to report release.

Feedback sessions are completed via Telehealth (phone or videoconference) following the release of the report. This appointment is set at a time that suits you and the diagnosing clinician. These appointments are 30 minutes long.

You will be invited to choose this option when the report is released.

Autism Assessments

Autism assessments are available for children and adults. We recommend referrals are only made after consultation with your doctor or another health professional to assist in identifying traits suggestive of an Autism diagnosis.

For child clients, a parent/caregiver interview is first conducted, followed by an individual assessment. While the child is with the psychologist/assessor, the parent/caregiver will be asked to complete additional assessment tools online if not completed prior.

The cost of $2600 includes:

Our assessments are completed by Psychologists and reviewed by a Clinical Psychologist. NDIS require a consensus team diagnosis for children over 9 and adults to access the scheme. The review and sign off by a Clinical Psychologist is considered a single clinician diagnosis, which should* negate the need for additional information to access NDIS. Children accessing NDIS under the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI: under 9 years old) pathway do not require a formal diagnosis for initial access, however need to work towards obtaining one in order to stay on the scheme long-term. *This is based on the National Guidelines for Autism Assessment. Not needing a second opinion saves you time and money.

The Department of Education have different requirements to the NDIS. Sign off from a ‘Lead Practitioner’ such as a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist is required.

**We follow the Autism CRC and meet criteria for participating in diagnosis as part of a consensus team. Whilst we do our best to stay up to date with the various institutional requirements, we encourage all clients to ensure that our assessments will meet their needs by checking with the relevant institutions (NDIS/Dept. of Ed) and clearly communicating their goals for accessing assessment with us so we can ensure we are the right fit*
